Oscilloscopes are indispensable for electronics debugging. This guide walks you through triggering, time/division settings, and interpreting common waveform patterns.
Begin with the probe compensation check and set the probe multiplier correctly on the scope. A 10x probe shown as 1x will make voltage readings look wrong.
Set volts/division so the waveform fits comfortably on the screen, then adjust time/division until a few cycles are visible. Stable triggering is the key to a readable display.
Use edge trigger for most digital and periodic analog signals. If the trace rolls or jumps, adjust trigger level near the middle of the waveform.
